14 design monitors review: a beauty contest for screens

14 24 and 27 inch full hd screens with a design touch

AOC PDS241

The second AOC model shows that the brand does not stand still when it comes to extra ordinary screens. The PDS241 has been designed in cooperation with the German design house F. A. Porsche and can be purchased for just under 185 pounds / 200 euros. The result can be described as an improvement on the previous model in every way. You can also read an extensive test and review of this screen here.

This is also a model with a single piece of metal foot, and here too, there is improvement on the previous specimen. The screw at the back is much more beautiful and you will not find any cables plugged in at the back either. The video signal here is sent via a mini hdmi cable integrated into the power cable. This, unfortunately, means that you will not be able to connect multiple devices to this screen easily. We are not sure about the decision to limit the connections, considering the target group. We would very much like to see a follow-up model with multiple video in connections and a longer cable from screen to the adapter. Another improvement point is the controls for the on-screen menu which are some of the most annoying we have encountered on screens, but also connecting a 3,5mm plug in the underside of the screen, looks completely out of place.

Disregarding the small issues of practicality, there is very little to complain about with this IPS screen, mainly because AOC have put a lot of time and effort into calibrating it. The brightness, white uniformity, colour temperature and deviations are all great. Because this screen has a wider colour spectre than sRGB, the colours look somewhat overly saturated, but not so much that it would be annoying. We guess that many will instead appreciate this. Our only real criticism is the minimum brightness of nearly 100 nits (which is way too bright), and the sRGB node which does not improve the colours but sets the brightness to blinding 268 nits. So, besides that, it is a design favourite.
