Forza Motorsport 7 review: benchmarks with 23 graphic cards

What hardware do you need to run the newest Forza game?

CPU influence

To test how the game handles slower processors, we have turned off some of  the cores and/or turned off Hyperthreading on our CPU to simulate the mid-range Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The number of cores and threads respectively: 2C/4T, 4C/4T and 4C/8T. The clocking frequency remained set to 4,5 GHz. We run this test with the currently fastest graphics card, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.

At first it seems that the game refuses to start with less than four cores, which would not make it the first game to require a minimum of four cores to run, but when we change from 4 threads to 8, it makes a difference at FullHD and WQHD. The framerate increases considerably, while the same changes give less of a result at UltraHD. When looking at the jump to 10 cores and 20 threads, the gain is minimal, and the performance is actually less than with 4 cores without Hyperthreading.

  2C/4T 4C/4T 4C/8T 10C/20T Verschil 4C/8T vs. 10C/20T
1920x1080 - medium 0 fps 153,7 fps 164,8 fps 161,2 fps 4,9%
1920x1080 - ultra 0 fps 125,7 fps 155,0 fps 112,6 fps -10,4%
2560x1440 - medium 0 fps 153,0 fps 172,1 fps 155,9 fps 1,9%
2560x1440 - ultra 0 fps 126,0 fps 144,8 fps 105,0 fps -16,7%
3840x2160 - medium 0 fps 154,3 fps 163,2 fps 158,5 fps 2,7%
3840x2160 - ultra 0 fps 110,9 fps 114,0 fps 110,8 fps <0,1%

Finally, we also tested the game on the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X overclocked to 4GHz with all the cores. The results were worse than those of the Intel 9700X with four cores and Hyperthreading. There are no scenarios where the CPU limitations make the game unplayable, but for the higher framerates, the Ryzen is not the best choice in Forza Motorsport 7.
