Benchmarks: video- en audio-encoding (x264, x265 and Flac)

By using Staxrip we convert Full HD video to H.264 or H.265. For both we use the commonly used x264 and x265 codes, but for the processors with built-in GPU we also run the tests using the Intel QuickSync and AMD VCE encoders. Aside from that we also measure how long it takes to convert an hour worth of uncompressed audio to Flac.

The new 6-core i7 is slightly faster than the 1800X with the x264 codec, and 46 percent faster than the 7700K. The latter is also outperformed with a small margin by the 8400. With x256 Coffee Lake performs slightly better. The 8700K even outperforms the 1920X Threadripper. Also note that the 8400 is slightly faster than the 1800X.

With the converting of FLAC the 8700K with its high single-core Turbo ends up in first place. The 8400 is the worst-performing Intel processor here, but is still clearly ahead of the AMD processors.
