Noise levels and temperatures

The GP107 GPU of the GTX 1050 produces a low amount of heat and all cards remain nice and cool. Only the low-profile edition from Gigabyte gets a bit hot at 74 degrees Celsius. There are only four 1050's with a so-called 0dB mode: both Strixes from ASUS, the G1 Gaming from Gigabyte and the Gaming X from MSI. If you want a fully silent card when idling, you're limited to those four. Out of the other cards only the MSI Aero ITX and the V2 OC are audible when idling, which is a serious downside in our opinion.

Of course Palit leads the charts with its fully passive card. You will need a bit of airflow however, since we measured 94 degrees Celsius after half an hour, which is really hot. Using a single case fan already lowered the temperature to acceptable levels.

When idling the Gigabyte G1 Gaming, Asus Strix, PNY XLR8 and MSI Gaming X 1050 Ti's also operate silently. The KFA2 OC LP and Zotac Mini make so much noise in this test that we cannot call them quiet.

If the graphics card is under load, the MSI GTX 1050 Gaming X remains nice and quiet. The card is practically inaudible at 24.3 dB(A). The Gigabyte G1 Gaming, the KFA2 OC - which does not have a fan speed depending on the temperature, therefore always producing the same amount of noise - and the ASUS Strix can also be called quiet. The two cheaper MSI 1050's and the card from EVGA pass 40 dB(A) and are quite audible under load.

If we take a look at the 1050 Ti's we find that the Zotac GTX 1050 Ti Mini becomes even louder under load and the MSI V2 OC also shows its true colours here - this much noise to dissipate such a low amount of heat is absolutely unnecessary. Which cards do perform well? Out of the actively cooled cards MSI is once again on top due to its efficient Twin Frozr cooler, however the ASUS Strix, Gigabyte G1 Gaming and PNY XLR8 are fairly quiet.

All tested 1050's and 1050 Ti's remain within acceptable limits, in terms of temperature. The passive Palit of course gets the hottest.
