Colour quality

We measured all monitors in the standard mode, sRGB-mode and AdobeRGB-mode. This results in a huge amount of data. In order to keep things as clear as possible we cover the colour quality in AdobeRGB-mode here. Using the 'compare' button next to the products at the bottom and to the right of this article you can create a comparison table which shows all the test results of the different modes. 

First we take a look at the coverage of the AdobeRGB colour space of the monitors. HP performs best while BenQ performs worst, but as stated before the latter is considerably better after calibration in hardware. 

The second thing we look at is the colour temperature of white in AdobeRGB-mode. Most monitors are slightly below the desired 6500 K, but the Eizo exceeds this slightly while the HP Z27X exceeds this by quite a bit. 

We were already measuring the colour- and grayscale value deviation based on the CIE2000 norm (we used the CIE1994 norm for a long time), but with the new test method we also add in the standard deviation. Simply put this gives an indication of the amount at which the sub-measurements that the average deviations are based on, deviate from the average measurement. Aside from that the averages are now based on a bigger number of sub-measurements. These can be found with the screenshots for every tested product. There you can also find the so-called saturation sweeps, that show to what extent the head- and support colours, meaning RGB and CMY, deviate from the desired values in a continuum. 

The results speak for themselves: BenQ, Dell and Philips clearly take the lead here. 

These three are also clearly the better monitors in terms of grayscale deviation.

Gamma 

Looking at the average gamma, Dell has the smallest deviation of the desired value of 2.2 but the differences are very small. Nevertheless a value that is slightly too low is not as troublesome as a value that is slightly too high.
