Power circuit

Overclocking is not possible with these motherboards anyway, so in that regard you do not need a very extensive power circuit. Nevertheless there is a difference in quality when it comes to the used power circuit. Especially the Gigabyte boards are rather sparing here. The B250M-DS3H does not even have heatsinks on the power phases. Because of this, we would not recommend that board for prolonged heavy load in combination with for example a Core i7-processor.

It is not bizarre that we observe that the most expensive motherboards offer the best power circuits. Your processor is definitely in good hands with the Strix B250F/H270F, MSI H270 Gaming M3 and ASRock Fatal1ty H270 Performance.

Cooling and overclocking features

As stated before these boards cannot be used to overclock. Because of this we do not find the features that are meant for this on the B250- and H270-models. Fortunately there are more and more entry-level boards that offer PWM-functionality on (nearly) every fan connector. Two relatively inexpensive boards, the Gigabyte B250M-DS3H and the ASUS Strix B250G Gaming, have a total of only two fan connectors. This is not a lot, and is something we dislike more when it comes to the ASUS-board because of its higher average price (price difference of about 18 pounds / 20 euros. Practically speaking you can only connect a single case fan when using these boards, or none at all if you are using a water cooler or a dual-fan CPU-cooler.
