GeForce GTX 1050 & 1050 Ti low-profile round-up: HTPC cards

The best GPU for your home cinema

By

Conclusion

Are you looking for a low-profile graphics card for usage in a media center or HTPC? Then the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 OC LP is your best choice in our opinion. Thanks to the modern GPU it supports hardware acceleration of H.265 video, including 4K, and it features no less than two HDMI 2.0 outputs. This makes the card ideal for home cinemas and due to its friendly price we think that it's definitely worth an Excellent Choice Award.

The KFA2 looks like a nice and affordable choice at first sight, however it disappointed a lot in the benchmarks. It's barely faster than an average GTX 1050, even though it really is a Ti-variant. The MSI GTX 1050 Ti LP does perform as we'd expected, however it's quite pricey and not as quiet. You could consider it if you really need the extra performance, however we don't think it deserves an award, due to the aforementioned downsides to the card.

Meanwhile AMD has also announced the Radeon RX 550, an even cheaper card that also seems very suitable for media center-like purposes. We hope to publish a review of that card soon.
