Scythe Mugen 5 PCGH Edition review: our new favourite

New CPU cooler tested using new test method

The Scythen Mugen 5 PCGH Edition manages to meet high expectations. The two fans with a relatively low spin speed allow for quiet operation, which means that the cooler remains barely audible, even under a heavy load. The cooling performance of this cooler is normally only found in much higher segments, while the design and simplicity of the mounting system are also hard to fault.

In its price segment of about 40 pounds the Mugen 5 PCGH is our new favourite. We could nag about the lack of a semi-passive mode, but in idle the fans turn at such a low speed that they'll be inaudible in practice. This cooler is only less suited for overclockers and other users that prefer absolute cooling performance above quiet operation.

Another advantage is that the Mugen 5 PCGH Edition comes with included mounting material for socket AM4, which means that you'll be able to use it with AMD Ryzen from the get go. The newest model in the Mugen series continues the successful tale and is definitely worth a recommendation.
