Power consumption

We measured the power consumption of the drives both when idle and when under load. We used a random write test with average block sizes as our load test.

Overall the Western Digital Red-drives are the most economic when it comes to power usage, while the HGST and Seagate products use the most power. That said, it is the WD Red Pro 4 TB that performs the worst in this test.
