8 headphones with noise cancellation tested

JBL Everest Elite 700

The Everest Elite 700 from JBL is a device that measures up in terms of build quality, buttons and connections against the most expensive models in this test, while not being as expensive. You get a pair of headphones that can be used both wired and wireslessly with all common buttons and connections, although the buttons aren't too easy to find by touch. In addition to volume buttons we find buttons for noise cancellation and Bluetooth and another button that you can assign a function to using the JBL Headphones app. You can choose to adjust the level of noise reduction using this button, but you can also choose to make it a separate noise cancelling button. This allows you to separate that functionality from the Bluetooth button, which is not the case out-of-the-box. It's also worth mentioning that the app works extremely well while being easy to use. It can be used to update the firmware of the headphones. At least, you can check for updates. The actual update process has to be performed using your PC.

It's remarkable that you can set the way audio is presented using TruNote. It will send a frequency sweep and then it will analyze the results. The idea is that it takes things like the volume of your ears into consideration when determining how sound is best presented to your ears. The only downside to this pair of headphones is their high weight, which caused the strap on top of heads to feel uncomfortable very quickly, however your mileage may vary.

The sound quality of the Elite 700 is generally good, but it doesn't really convince us. The mids are emphasized the most, which is great for vocals. In general these headphones produce a nice sound to listen to. Songs that are bass-heavy might not pack enough punch with these headphones however, as they're clearly not the strength of this pair. Our measurements also show a heavy dip in the highs, but those are mostly frequencies that you can barely hear or register. The noise cancellation on these headphones is not great. It suppresses a very low amount of noise from our vacuum cleaner.
