Benchmarks (USB 3.1)
Since USB 3.1 is not a part of the chipset, the motherboard manufacturers have to use extra controller chips in order to support the new interface. We use the Sandisk Extreme 900 960GB, the fastest external SSD available at the time of writing, to test the speed of this interface. In contrast to previous test we also no longer perform this test with C-states set at C8, instead we use the default settings of the motherboard.
The Intel Alpine Ridge Controller is a bit slower than the ASMedia ASM2142 found on the other boards. The ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming-ITX/ac is about 100 MB/sec slower than its competition in terms of reading speeds, however the difference when writing is not as big.
