ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming-ITX/ac review: all-rounder

First Kaby Lake Mini-ITX motherboard tested

The ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming-ITX/ac has many features for an ITX board. There are six SATA600 ports, in addition to an M.2 slot. An Intel network controller and WLAN controller are also present. Furthermore, it supports Thunderbolt 3 thanks to its Intel Alpine Ridge, although this board only has one USB 3.1 port on the I/O panel.

What's more, it's CPU power circuit is very good, which means that you'll be able to overclock well. The board is also nice and power efficient, both under load and when idling, which is nice if you want to run your processor at stock speeds. The audio quality is fine, however the USB 3.1 performance lags behind that of other boards.

ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming-ITX/ac

All in all, this board from ASRock is an excellent choice for those looking for a high-end Mini-ITX board. We'd definitely recommend it, however we're not giving it any awards yet, until we've tested more ITX boards. This is because we want to be able to make a good comparison. We also hope that the board will be more readily available by that time, so we can get a better impression of its actual price.
