Radeon HD 7970 and GeForce GTX 680 tested with 10 CPUs

How good does you processor need to be for high-end graphics cards?

Crysis 2

Crysis 2 is known for being a graphically demanding game where the GPU is usually always the bottleneck. That is reflected by our test results as well.

With the GeForce GTX 680 the AMD processors don't scale at all, the scores are all around 75 fps. For Intel the Core i5 and higher get just above 75 fps, but the Pentium and Core i3 score significantly less. A GTX 680 with a Pentium G860 even drops below 60 fps. The AMD Radeon 7970 GHz scores around 68 fps with all AMD processors, and around 70 fps with all Intel processors. About the same, in other words.

In 5760x1080 the processor is clearly not the bottleneck. With any of the processors the GTX 680 scores 28 fps and the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition is around 25 fps, with only the Intel Core i3 2100T being somewhat slower.
