If you're any type of gamer, then the release of Far Cry 3 likely did not escape your attention. The third installment in the Far Cry series is currently one of the most visually impressive video games on the market. If you have a relatively powerful PC with a fast DirectX 11 graphics card, there is lots to enjoy here.

Video games do not fall under our expertise, so if you want to read more about the game itself a good review can be found on IGN. Here Far Cry 3 received a score of 9.0, and it has a metacritic score of 89 points. An excellent critical reception, in other words.

We tested the game on a number of different graphics cards with two different resolutions: Full HD (1920x1080) and 3x Full HD (5760x1080). In both resolutions we tested the game with Medium and Ultra settings, and for Ultra we also enabled 4x FSAA. The exact settings you can see in the screenshots below.

Far Cry 3 does not come with a built-in benchmark, so in order to create identical testing conditions we repeat the exact same route each time. This includes using a water scooter to cross a lake, something which appears to be extra demanding on video cards. We don't have any gun fights in our test, because this type of emergent gameplay is impossible to replicate exactly.

We use our standard graphics card testing system, consisting of an Intel Core i7 3960X, 16 GB Corsair DDR3-1600 memory and an ASUS P9X79 Pro motherboard. The drivers we used are the AMD Catalyst version 12.11 and Nvidia GeForce drivers version 310.64.
