Kingston HyperX 3K 120/240 GB SSDs reviewed

Kingston joins the price war

The performance of the Kingston HyperX 3K SSDs is in line with other SandForce SF-2281 SSDs.There is not a huge difference in performance between these models and the higher-end models. According to our own calculations, the lower 3000 erase cycles should not be cause for concern. With normal use you will be able to use these SSDs for many years without a problem.

The pricing of the HyperX 3K SSD is not extremely high, but it's also not as affordable as other similar SSDs. Many a Sandforce-based SSD, such as the OCZ Vertex or Intel 330 series, are available at lower prices. A unique selling point for Kingston could be its upgrade kits, which provide everything you need for migrating your current hard drive to the SSD.

Bottomline, theĀ Kingston HyperX 3K SSDs are great SSDs, but either the price needs to drop or the performance needs to stand out more from the crowd for us to get really excited about these.
