Bitfenix Shinobi XL: mild-mannered powerhouse

Workstation enclosure with desktop appearance

The Bitfenix Shinobi XL lives up to its name. It's subtle, silent and very effective. We have seen cases that cool better, but the performance is good enough for you not to have to worry about your expensive components. This is a high-end chassis for a high-end system, no doubt about it. This is apparent from the available space and the professional finish. If we compare it with the top 5 of the tested cases, that cost £105 or more, then we see many similarities. There is support for longer motherboards, long video cards and high coolers. The Shinobi XL is very complete in terms of features and user-friendliness, even though we do miss a fan controller.

In terms of performance, the Shinobi XL is the second coolest case in the top 5 if we look at the most important test (400W and 7V). It's also the most silent with the fans at high speed. Minor complaints would be that the upper and side panels could be a bit easier to remove, and having a 120 mm fan instead of a 140 mm fan was an unfortunate choice, in our opinion. These minor gripes prevent us from awarding the gold medal. However, we happily recommend this case, which receives the Hardware.Info Silver Award.
