We are witnessing an increasing number of applications of the Thunderbolt technology. After Apple, Promise and LaCie, now Western Digital is launching a product that takes advantage of this lightning fast connection technology in the shape of the WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo. We tested the 4TB version of WD's new external hard drive.
It won't be long now before the first PC motherboards with onboard Thunderbolt will become available. However, until the first Thunderbolt-compatible motherboards arrive, you will need a Mac to be able to enjoy the lightning-fast Thunderbolt devices. For this test we used a 2011 Apple Mac Mini. The WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo 4TB looks about the same as the other My Books with two drives from WD. The main difference is in the colour and of course the two Thunderbolt connectors on the back.
