Synology DiskStation DS2411+ review: 12 disk NAS

NAS for collectors

Limited connections

The DS2411+ has a standard ATX power supply and in the back you will find a capped VGA port in addition to the serial connection. There is also a special connection intended for expanding storage capacity with the DX1211 12-bay expansion case. This upgrade won't come cheap, with a hefty £800 price tag. Lastly, you will find four USB 2.0 ports and two gigabit ports. There is no eSATA or USB 3.0.

The limited expansion option is a bit of a downside in our eyes. Yes, you can buy the expensive external case. But if you don't need that many extra drives or want to quickly transfer data from an external hard disk you'd like to back up, then it's a shame that you don't have any alternatives to the four USB 2.0 ports. The bays that Synology uses in this NAS are suitable for 3.5- or 2.5-inch disks.
