Intel launches 180 GB 335 Series SSD

Intel's 240 GB SSD 335 was the manufacturer's first solid-state drive featuring 20 nm flash chips. We already mentioned that the drive would be released in smaller capacities, of which the 180 GB version has now made its debut.

The 180 GB Intel SSD 335 has product number SSDSC2CT180A4K5 and is based on LSI-SandForce's SF-2281 controller, combined with a SATA 6 Gb/s interface. Performance of 500 Mbyte/s and 450 Mbyte/s is claimed for respectively reading and writing operations. 52,000 IOPS are specified for 4K random writes.

The 20 nm MLC memory is produced by IMFlash, a collaboration between Intel and Micron. The 180 GB drive features a new enclosure, which is still of the 2.5-inch type with a 9 mm thickness.
