Dune BD 3.0 Prime arrives in our testlab

By

Given the delays of high-end media players based on the new Sigma 8642 chip, it seems apparent that creating devices based on this chip is a rather tricky process. Earlier, we reported on the delay of the anticipated Popcorn Hour C-200 player, which has recently become available. At that same time, the HDI Dune BD 3.0 Prime was to be released. Despite the setbacks, this media player will also be available before the holidays.

Importer IBDL B.V. (former: DivXPlayer.nl), earlier provided us with the Popcorn Hour C-200. From the same specialist, a brand new HDI Dune Prime 3.0 was delivered in our test lab. The box shows that our model features a 500 GB 2,5" hard disk, Blu-ray drive and Sigma's 8642 mediachip. The additional specifications can be found in an earlier report (dutch language).

Extended reports on the new high end players are to be expected shortly. The first impression of the device, the box and enclosures can be found below.

Readers wondering what happened to the Popcorn Hour C-200: when it first reached our test lab, the firmware was still in a beta version, and we were ensured that the final version would feature several improvements. Hardware.Info preferred to write a review of the product as it would be available, rather than a first impression of a prototype, which will not be released for public use anyway (our usual reports on pre-production models are made with the knowledge that the differences between that version and the final version are minimal). At any rate, the C-200 has been available for about a week now and a review based on the available firmware is soon to follow, whether that firmware is finished or not.
