Samsung 960 Evo 1TB: A lot and affordable storage in M.2 format

Samsung 960 Evo 500GB: Samsung brings NVMe-speed to lower price point

Samsung made their old 950 Pro redundant by releasing a faster and cheaper alternative. In the current landscape of PCIe-SSDs it is without a doubt a great deal and more than worthy of the Excellent Choice award. Important caveat remains that NVMe-SSDs, even now that their prices are going down slightly, are not yet for everyone.

Samsung 960 Pro 1TB: Fastest M.2 SSD at the moment

The Samsung 960 Pro is a lot faster than its predecessor. Especially sequential and in the database and fileserver simulations it performs a lot better. The performance in real-world tests is better as well, although the difference is smaller here - and with daily use you will probably not notice this.

Kingston SSDNow UV400 480GB
27 June 2016

Kingston SSDNow UV400 480GB: Relatively cheap SSD with solid performance

The Kingston UV400 is the cheapest SSD-series on the market, in part thanks to the TLC-memory, while the performance is still solid. It has a good price / performance ratio. For someone that travels a lot with their laptop it is not that great, because of the high power consumption.

Crucial MX300 750GB
20 June 2016

Crucial MX300 750GB: Good performance and friendly price.

The Crucial MX300 750GB performs well, but is relatively cheap due to the applied 3D NAND-technology. This is an SSD with an excellent price / performance ratio.

Samsung 750 Evo 250GB
16 June 2016

Samsung 750 Evo 250GB: Barely slower than the 850 Evo, just cheaper!

With the 750 Evo Samsung offers a mid-way point between the real budget-SSDs such as the Crucial BX200 and OCZ Trion 150, that perform worse, and high-end SSDs such as the 950 Pro and Intel SSD 750. By doing this it actually takes over this role from the 850 Evo, just at a lower price point.

Sandisk Ultra II 480GB
29 March 2016

Sandisk Ultra II 480GB: A faster alternative for real budget SSDs

If you do not want to spend that much on an SSD, but still want better performance than a really cheap one, the Ultra II is a solid and competitively priced alternative.

Sandisk Ultra II 960GB
24 February 2016

Sandisk Ultra II 960GB: Much bang for you buck

At the time of writing the Sandisk Ultra II 960 GB was the cheapest current-gen tested SSD in terms of price per gigabyte. Nonetheless its performance is anything but bad: its Hardware.info Performance score is decent and its PCMark scores are good as well.

Samsung SM951 256GB (AHCI)
1 September 2015

Samsung SM951 256GB (AHCI): Significantly faster than SATA 600 SSDs, thanks to PCIe x4 interface

Partly thanks to its PCI-Express 3.0 x4 interface, the Samsung SM951 is much faster than conventional Serial ATA 600 SSDs. This SSD is a fantastic choice. Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't sell it separately, and there are currently very few motherboards which allow you to use this M.2 SSD properly.

Samsung 850 Evo 1TB
8 December 2014

Samsung 850 Evo 1TB: Excellent performance with competitive pricing

Samsung fulfills all its promises with the 850 Evo SSDs. The performance of the new budget SSDs is excellent. The Achilles' heel of last generation's SSDs, the steady state performance, has been improved greatly and is now better than most other budget SSDs. We also have nothing but praise for the power efficiency of these models. The price-performance ratio can pretty much not be better.

Seagate BarraCuda New 4TB
10 July 2017

Seagate BarraCuda New 4TB: Good performance for a sharp price

The latest iteration of the Seagate Barracuda 4TB leaves a good impression. The latest model is faster than its predecessor, but still not noisy. In terms of pure performance the Toshiba remains the winner, but in our opinion the Seagate is a better all-round product, that also has a sharp price.

Seagate Archive HDD 8TB
10 September 2016

Seagate Archive HDD 8TB: The cheapest 8TB hard drive

This Seagate is a mixed bag. The speed might not be something to write home about, and the SMR-technology means it has to work harder (meaning more wear and tear), but it is quiet and relatively cheap (while the price has risen substantially in the past months).
