TP-Link TL-WDR4900 review: TP-Link's best router yet

TP-Link's best router yet

By

Introduction

TP-Link has a track record of creating impressive routers that provide lots of value for your money. We were therefore eager to find out how the latest creation from TP-Link performs, the TL-WDR4900. Once again TP-Link manages to make a very positive impression.

A while ago we reviewed the TL-WDR3600 and the TL-WDR4300 from TP-Link. Especially the WDR3600 was very good, and was a capable router despite it's relatively low price of £65 or € 60. It earned the Bronze Award at the time for providing very good value for your money. The WDR4900 that we are reviewing today is the most high-end model in the series for the time being. It's an N900 model, which means that it has a wireless bandwidth of 450 Mbps on both 2.4 and 5 GHz. The WDR4300 only features 450 Mbps on 5 GHz, with only 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. The WDR3600 has 300 Mbps on both frequencies. These two models are therefore designated N750 and N600, respectively.

TP-Link TL-WDR4900

The TL-WDR4900 has a familiar design, the same as that of the WDR3600 and the WDR4300. The back side has the three antennas, four gigabit LAN ports, a gigabit WAN port, two USB ports, the power switch, a WPS/ reset button and slide switch for the wireless signal.

TP-Link's TL-WDR4900 is available for an average of {c:gb}£103 or € 110, which is a bit more expensive than the previous two models we mentioned.
