The Matrox DualHead2Go Digital ME or SE is an affordable and practical way of adding a maximum of 3840x1200 pixels to your digital work space. Having a large desktop is a great way of improving your productivity, and having to identical screens next to each other works better than combining your laptop with a single monitor.
It's a shame then that operating systems such as Mac OS X and Windows aren't optimised for resolutions like this, but the PowerDesk software does make it a lot more practical. The use of zones is a very efficient way of making the most of such a large desktop. Still, on the Mac you do still get a pop-up notification in the centre of the two displays once in a while. That doesn't take away from the overall benefit of the software from Matrox.
If your laptop comes with only a DisplayPort connector and you really want or need a large desktop, then the Matrox DualHead2Go Digital ME for the Mac and the Matrox DualHead2Go Digital SE for Windows is a great solution, and the price of £117 is not unreasonable.
