Introduction
Iiyama created a pretty unique monitor with the ProLite G2773HS-GB1, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz but no 3D compatibility. The high refresh rate serves a single purpose, and that is to deliver the quickest response time possible. It is supposed to make the 27-inch ProLite G2773HS-GB1 the ultimate gaming monitor that money can buy. Hardware.Info tested it to find out how ultimate it really is.
120 Hz monitors are typically intended for use with active 3D goggles, delivering 60 Hz per eye. Iiyama instead wanted to create a very fast 27-inch screen specifically aimed at gamers. When we talk about gaming monitors, we mean monitors with a fast reaction time. Manufacturers claims that only 2 ms and 5 ms screens still exist, but our tests don't support that. The companies like to measure response time under favourable conditions, but we analyse response time in a standardised manner. We measure between all-white and all-black, but more importantly also between light and dark grey. This is more challenging for a monitor, as an over-drive feature doesn't have much added value here.
A few months ago we reviewed 17 different 27-inch monitors. The AOC E2795VH proved to be a very fast monitor, with only point of criticism being the default colour temperature. With an average price of £198, it's £100 more affordable than the Iiyama ProLite G2773HS-GB1 .
We're curious to find out whether the Iiyama screen is good enough to beat the AOC monitor, either with performance or in price vs performance.
