Looks
A big reason for the high price of the Streacom FC5 is that the 44 x 34,5 x 5,2 cm (BxDxH) housing weighs 5.2 kg, so that's a lot of aluminium. The front, side and rear panels are about 1 cm thick, and the top and bottom about 2.5 mm.
The exterior is very minimalistic. The front has a power button, an IR receiver and the slot for the optical drive, but that's it. There are no connectors on the front, which would detract from the style. It's still a drawback, but in the same way high-end audio equipment has less features than cheaper models. It seems that Streacom is considering adding some connectors, judging from a poll on its own website.
The most important feature of the FC5 can be found on the sides, the 2-cm-deep and 4-mm-thick cool ribs over the entire length of the chassis. The rear is very basic as well, with an opening for the motherboard connectors, a single, covered expansion card slot and a hole for the external power supply.
