Last time we reviewed a Buffalo NAS it was not an unbridled success. The LinkStation Mini was small and efficient, but the performance was just as modest as the exterior of the NAS with 2.5-inch disks. Now we're taking a closer look at the Buffalo TeraStation 5200, which has everything going for it to put Buffalo on the map in terms of impressive performance.
Buffalo has different NAS product lines for different end-users. The LinkStations are intended for home use, while the TeraStations are more geared toward professional use. That doesn't automatically imply that the TeraStations don't fit in a home environment, but according to Buffalo the design and pricetag are meant for business end-users. They generally cost more than the LinkStation, and this holds true for this TeraStation 5200. The version we are reviewing with two 1 TB disk costs an average of £447.
