We did like the first edition of the NUC, except the fact that it lacked USB 3.0. That's something the more compact Gigabyte Brix did feature. The new DC53427HYE takes care of that part, and more. With the built-in vPro feature the NUC is now compatible with business applications.

If Intel can do it, so can we, Gigabyte must have thought. Okay, Gigabyte won't be making processors anytime soon, but when it comes to compact PCs and especially motherboards we have full faith in Gigabyte. Intel has the Next Unit of Computing (NUC), and Gigabyte now has released its interpretation of the compact PC with the Brix.

At Computex, ASUS showed its new VivoPC, a compact system that was specially designed for use as a HTPC. Unfortunately, at the time of presentation, the technical details of the device weren't revealed. The manufacturer has now published the specifications on a special web page.

Gigabyte's Brix platform first showed up mid-April. The compact systems have dimensions of 30 x 108 x 114 millimetres and are developed to compete with Intel's Next Unit of Computing (NUC) platform.
