Popcorn Hour has created the S-300, a new compact media player. The device runs on the Sigma SMP8671 chipset, which is capable of displaying media in 1080p. The S-300 has modest dimensions of 150 x 136 x 30 millimetres and is cooled passively. Popcorn Hour claims that the S-300 is ideal to create and display advertisements or announcements on billboards and information kiosks.
Apart from displaying video, audio and photos, users can also keep track of the weather, twitter and RSS feeds. The Popcorn Hour S-300 comes with a 4 GB USB flash drive. Locally shared files are also accessible. The S-300 has HDMI, D-Sub and analog audio outputs, as well as two USB connectors and a 10/100 Mbps ethernet connector. Optionally, 802.11n WiFi support can be added by means of a dongle. The bundled IR receiver and remote control should allow for easy control.
Popcorn Hour's S-300 has a recommended price of €249 (£198).
