During the Worldwide Partner Conference in Canada, Microsoft´s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Tami Reller, has announced that Windows 8 will launch in late October. The final version of Windows 8 will be ready in the first week of August, after which production of this 'release to manufacturing' version will start.

This launch date seems in line with Microsoft's earlier plans. The current Windows 8 Release Preview version will be polished slightly before the final version is released. One such adjustment is that the Aero Glass user interface will be left out.
