Last September, Seagate decided to shorten the warranty period on its hard disks to three years for professional disks and two years for its Barracuda consumer HDDs. Three years earlier, the manufacturer changed its warranty from five to three years. Shortening the warranty should save money, but Seagate now seems to realise that a longer warranty period is valued by the customer.
German website Computerbase reports that Seagate has extended the duration of its warranty again. Starting June 30th, the 'high-end' Momentus XT (2.5") and Barracuda XT (3.5") will now once again have a warranty period of three years. The SV35 series of video surveillance hard disks will also have three years of warranty. The professional Constellation (ES) hard disks for servers will once again have a five-year warranty period. Hard disks that are not listed below have not had their warranties changed.
