Point Grey has created a camera the size of an ice cube (29x29x30 mm) with a USB 3.0 interface. The camera has an amazingly high resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels and can also serve as a web cam thanks to its USB connector.
The FL3-U3-88S2C camera uses a Sony IMX121 sensor with an "Exmor R" CMOS architecture. This reduces image noise and increases the sensitivity. The camera is able to record at up to 21 fps at its quad-HD resolution, which translates to roughly 185 MB/s of data. To achieve such performance, a 32 MB frame buffer is used. The device also has an integrated colour interpolation feature, a LUT, gamma correction and 'pixel binning'.
The Flea3 FL3-U3-88S2C-C has a recommended pricetag of $945 (£603). Corporations could use the camera for remote video meetings which can be displayed on four Full HD monitors to show every possible detail.
