AMD has launched its Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition graphics card, which is to compete with Nvidia's GTX 680 GPU with its increased clock frequencies. Our review gives you an impression of what this new card is capable of. The HD 7970 GHz Edition has a core clock frequency of 1 GHz, with a 1050 MHz Turbo Mode. The memory has been overclocked from 1375 to 1500 MHz (6 GHz effectively).
As AMD's partners have had almost half a year already to create their own overclocked models of the HD 7970, it's uncertain how many of them will embrace the 'GHz Edition'. If you're looking for an overclocked HD 7970, there are plenty of versions available. Sapphire has released a press statement, introducing new 'Vapor-X' and 'Toxic' graphics cards based on AMD's HD 7970 'Ghz Edition'.
Sapphire has yet to reveal the specifications of the card and product images are also still missing. Sapphire's terms 'Vapor-X' and 'Toxic' usually refer to overclocked graphics cards with an alternative cooler.
