Sony has introduced a remarkable projector. The VPL-VW1000ES has a resolution of 4096x2160 pixels, which makes it perfect for home cinema use. The projector is capable of upscaling both SD and HD sources to the 4k resolution. Sony claims that users won't have to sit far from the screen, as a distance of three times the height should provide a clear image.
The 330W bulb gives the VPL-VW1000ES a brightness of 2000 ANSI lumen and a dynamic contrast ratio of 1.000.000:1. The 2.1x zoom lens is motorised for quick focusing. Sony states that the beamer projects images with a diagonal ranging from 60 to 300 inch. 3D technology is also supported, although it will require the use of active shutter glasses. The projector is sized 520 x 200 x 640 millimetres and weighs around 20 kilograms. The maximum power consumption is specified at 480 watts. When in standby-mode, the beamer uses 0.3W.
The back of the projector features two HDMI connectors, as well as mini D-Sub and a network connector. The Sony VPL-VW1000ES costs just under £17,000.
