NEC is one of the few manufacturers currently capable of shipping large quantities of USB 3.0 controllers, resulting in the chip's implementation in several motherboards and seperate PCI-Express x1 expansion cards. Apparently, the USB 3.0 interface still had some room for improvement in terms of connectiity. As a result, NEC has released a new firmware for its USB 3.0 controllerchip. The firmware can be easily downloaded and installed on systems using Windows Vista or Windows 7. The update tool can be downloaded from this website.

Tweaktown has already created a list of all Gigabyte motherboards equipped with NEC's USB 3.0 controller. The list consists of the following models:

  • X58A-UD7/UD5/UD3R
  • P55A-UD7/UD6/UD5/UD4P/UD4/UD3P/UD3R/UD3, P55-USB3/USB3L
  • H57M-USB3
  • H55M-USB3
  • EP45T-USB3P
  • EP43T-USB3
  • EP41T-USB3, EP41T-USB3L
  • 790XT-USB3
  • 790XTA-UD4
  • 890GPA-UD3H
  • 790FXTA-UD5
  • 770TA-UD3
  • 770T-USB3
  • 785GMT-USB3

Naturally, the tool is to function on all other motherboards and seperate expansion cards equipped with NEC D720200F1 chip.
