Buffalo has launched a new external DVD-burner. The DVSM-X24U2V has a maximum writing speed of 24x for single-layer DVD±R disks, while double-layer media can be written at 8x. In combination with rewritable DVD+RW discs, the DVSM-X24U2V reaches 8x speeds, with DVD-RW 6x. The burner also supports DVD-RAM (12x), CD-R (48x) and CD-RW (32x).

The external optical drive is sized 160 x 50 x 220 mm and weighs about 1,2 kilograms. The drive is connected through USB 2.0 and can be used both horizontal and vertically. Buffalo's DVSM-X24U2V is to be released in Japan later this month, bearing a pricetag the equivalent of about 65 euro. Pricing and availability in the rest of the world is still unknown.
