SIS working on SSD controllers

Because SiS is losing territory in the chipset market, the company has started developing other technologies, namely those of SSD storage. LinkVast Technologies, part of the SiS Group, is now working solely on the designing of SSD controllers. That this market still has a long way to go is best experienced when looking at the performance of different SSD's in applications.

As of yet, LinkVast Technologies has finished its first controllers, the LVT280 and LVT815. These controllers live up to the SATA 3.0 Gbps standard and are able to control both eight-channel and four-channel configurations. The LinkVast controllers feature a 16-bit ECC error correction and a wear-leveling algorithm to ensure maximum data security and lifetime stability.

Both controllers support MLC and SLC memory chips and are compatible with an external DRAM memory chip for data buffering. The LVT280 and LVT815 controllers are produced on 110nm and the first samples are now being shipped. It's expected that the first SSD's using this controller will hit shelves by June.
