After the X-Fi family was expanded with a PCI-express, and an Expresscard model for notebooks Creative now reveals an external USB model of it's soundcard. The soundcard, named the SB-XFI-SR5, will be officially introduced around the second week of may and has a recommended price of less than $90.
The USB version of the X-FI has a black case with a large analog volumeknob on the corner and will feature several analog and digital audio-connections. The box supports CMSS 3D, which allows surround to sound even better through a headphone. There's also a 24 bits Crystalizer present, which according to Creative is very good in repairing the source signal and opressing static. The SB-XFI-SR5 soundcard can also decode Dolby Digital and DTS. The connectors on the USB X-FI are goldplated for an optimal connection with the audio equipment.
